Applied Technology Review included Nitrogen Sensing Solutions in its 2024 list of the top 10 sensor technology companies in Europe. The profile starts from a simple premise: nitrogen levels drive water quality and the health of aquatic life. Excess ammonia, nitrite and nitrate can cause stress, stunted growth and mass fish mortality. NS2's monitoring tools are designed to catch those problems early, with results delivered in real time to smartphones, tablets and dashboards.
The flagship NOxAqua system pairs disposable, compound-specific test strips with portable readers, so operators can test on site instead of shipping samples to a lab. NS2 has also introduced an automated system for land-based recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), which often recycle more than 90% of their water, enabling remote, continuous oversight. The products grew from an extensive market study with interviews and questionnaires across aquaculture segments, and pilot clients' feedback was shaping the final design.
The go-to-market model relies on distributors, often technology integrators, who add NS2's technology to their sensor portfolios and handle client outreach and support. That lets end users replace slower, less accurate probes and off-site lab analysis with immediate on-site insight. The company is extending beyond aquaculture into environmental monitoring and agritech, supported by a team with strong academic roots.
